Preparation Overview

Preparation Overview

The privilege to do most of your coursework any time and anywhere you have an Internet connection provides you with some unique opportunities and equally unique responsibilities for managing your own time and completing your course assignments.

Time Commitment

Online coursework requires the same commitment of time and effort that a site-based classroom does. While there is flexibility in when you can do the work, and how long you can work on it at any one time, you should plan to put in the same amount of time per week as in a regular class:

  • Regular 6-7 period schedule: 5-6 hours per week per semester course
  • Block schedule: 8-10 hours per week per course

The most important way to be sure that you keep pace, is to log in every day, and communicate with your teacher if you run into any difficulties. There are many ways to get support, so be sure to ask!

Please review the following links to complete the Preparation stage:

  1. Student Self-Evaluation & Parent Support
  2. Expectations for Students, Parents, Teachers and Support Staff
  3. Hardware & Software Guidelines

Involvement in an online class can provide benefits to the student that include training to become a self-motivated and self-directed learner. An online class can expand and extend learning opportunities for those wishing to achieve credit makeup, credit acceleration, manage a complicated schedule, or study unique subject areas. Best wishes in your online journey!
