Can online students learn as effectively as students in a traditional classroom? This question has been researched for the past decade, with results that consistently show that online learning is at least as effective as that of traditional classrooms.
A new MIT study, looking at the effectiveness of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), found that in a MOOC “the amount learned is somewhat greater than in the traditional lecture-based course.”
Interestingly, a second finding was that students who scored the lowest on pretests increased as much or more than prepared students who scored highly on pretests. The researchers concluded that the least prepared students “learned as well as everybody else.”
